EU Watch General Manager Avital Grinberg appeared on Radio Télévision Suisse to speak about hostage diplomacy and the efforts underway by EU Watch for a unified EU strategy on hostage affairs.

“We need to start recognising that [hostage-taking] is a humanitarian issue in the broadest sense and a bipartisan issue that concerns everyone. It is difficult to imagine that, at the European Union level, no one is responsible for this problem,” said Grinberg.

Furthermore, she emphasized that “appointing an EU special envoy, as is the case for other issues, would help to raise awareness about the dangers of hostage-taking and to establish the necessary network between EU countries. Additionally, we need tougher consequences for those who take hostages.”
